Scale Within – Adolescent Binge Eating Disorder Treatment

It’s just a number Say it with me: I am not the number I see on the bathroom scale. If that was the case then why does the scale seem to matter so much? Why do we let ourselves become defined by a number? Because our society focuses on a number, many people start out at young ages trying to figure out how to eat in order to achieve that number. Sometimes this even brings on binge eating. While there are adolescent binge eating disorder treatment programs to help such as the ones Aspire Wellness offers, one of our goals is to help avoid the woman's legs on a domestic scaleproblem all together.

Too much screen time can lead to some very serious behavior problems

We’ve all heard from our mothers and fathers, “Those video games are gonna rot your brain.” For the most part, that statement isn’t totally true. There are a lot of great things about video games and technology. It can sometimes be used as a learning tool and in some cases, it can enhance one’s hand-eye coordination and be used for therapeutic purposes. In fact, in a series of experiments on a small number of gamers, researches reported that gamers with previous experience of playing action games were better at perceptual tasks such as pattern discrimination than games with less experience. So, to say that technology and video games are “all-bad,” would not be true.

Believe it or not, thousands of men suffer from eating disorders.

It is a common misperception that adolescent binge eating disorder treatment centers only cater to female patients. Many people do not realize that this disorder affects males as well as females. According to the National Eating Disorder Association or NEDA, “millions of men and boys” struggle with binge eating disorder. In order to dispel this gender myth, we must first examine what a binge eating disorder is and how one can go about treating it. In males, a binge eating disorder is characterized by periodic instances of extreme over-eating and binging. Typically males with adolescent binge eating disorder do not “purge” to prevent weight gain. Many times these disorders develop when adolescents need to maintain a certain weight or body image for a sport or other extracurricular activity. But unhealthy habits are difficult to curb, and these can spiral out of control.

Anorexia and Bulimia: Working on getting past the stigma and shame

Eating disorders are a huge problem in the United States. Yet in many cases, social stigmas and patient denial prevent sufferers from seeking help. This problem exists throughout our country and our home state of California is no exception. Is there a feasible way to address this issue and to help diminish the negative power that social stigma’s have? Millions of Americans suffer from eating disorders and social stigmas surrounding the issue only prevent those afflicted from getting quality medical care. One way we can accomplish this is simply by talking about the issue. Californians who are afflicted by these disorders should know that reaching out for help is a sign of strength not weakness. Eating disorder rehab in California is an important early step in addressing these illnesses.
